Likely Late Victorian–Early Edwardian Moss Agate Ring in 10k Gold

ABOUT:

There is something quietly mesmerizing about moss agate...no two stones are ever the same. I was really excited to get my hands on this one, as I'd been wanting to have one in the MDJ collection for quite sometime. This elongated oval stone features striking dendritic inclusions that look like tiny branches or organic forms suspended in milky quartz, almost like a miniature landscape captured in stone,  which is where the name “moss agate” originates.

Based on the elongated oval shape, the softly sculpted shoulders, and the overall construction of the setting, this ring is likely late Victorian to early Edwardian in era (circa 1890–1915). The proportions and gently tapered shoulders feel very much in line with jewelry from that transitional period.

Moss agate was especially loved during the Victorian era, when natural motifs and sentimental symbolism were woven into so much of the jewelry being made. Its earthy, botanical appearance reflected a deep appreciation for nature, something that still feels timeless and wearable today.

This piece carries that same spirit. It has an effortless, slightly bohemian presence while still feeling refined in solid 10k yellow gold. It looks beautiful worn alone, layered with a thin diamond band, or worn with other antique rings for a collected-over-time feel.

CONDITION:

This ring is in very good antique condition. The moss agate displays crisp, well-defined dendritic inclusions and remains free from noticeable surface scratching under close inspection. The gold band shows light surface wear consistent with age and use, including evidence of a past resizing. Minor tarnishing is visible on one shoulder. The setting remains beautifully shaped and structurally sound.

All of the jewelry listed here is antique and pre-owned, meaning it may show signs of wear, which is a testament to its rich history and the stories it carries. Far from being “perfect” or “brand new,” this is what makes antique pieces so special – they’ve been loved, cherished, and worn over time. I believe that these imperfections only add to their character and charm, and they’re ready for their next chapter with you.

As with all antique jewelry, the stones may show subtle signs of wear, like surface abrasions or a natural patina, which only add to their unique character. Antique cuts and settings can differ from modern styles, contributing to their charm and individuality. Any significant imperfections or repairs will be clearly noted in the listings. Thank you for appreciating the beauty of their uniqueness!

Shipping insurance is required and INCLUDED in cost for any item over $200 to ensure your purchase is fully protected during transit. This listing will also include a signature upon delivery.
