Antique Jennings Brothers Art Nouveau Silver Jewelry Casket

A treasure from the early 1900s, this Jennings Brothers silver-plated Art Nouveau jewelry casket is a true piece of history. With graceful floral swirls, tulip-like blossoms, and delicate raised dots, its design captures the feminine elegance of the Art Nouveau era. Resting on four petite legs, this piece has a beautifully curved, almost oval shape—both sculptural and functional.

Jennings Brothers, established in 1890 in Bridgeport, Connecticut, was renowned for creating exquisite decorative metalwork, from jewelry caskets to clocks and accessories. Their pieces were often crafted from spelter with luxurious silver or gold plating, showcasing impeccable attention to detail.

This particular casket likely once housed a music box, as evidenced by a small hole in the bottom where the winding mechanism would have been. Though the original pale peach-pink silk lining had deteriorated, I have lovingly restored it with a cream-colored velvet-like fabric, while salvaging some of the original satin to create a delicate bow inside the lid, adorned with an antique pearl bead—a nod to its history while ensuring it remains functional and elegant.

CONDITION:

This antique Jennings Brothers jewelry casket is in good antique condition, showing expected signs of age and history. The original pale peach-pink silk lining had deteriorated over time, so it has been replaced with a cream-colored velvet-like fabric. A portion of the original satin was preserved and sewn into a delicate bow inside the lid, accented with an antique pearl bead. The new lining is not glued in place, allowing for easy removal if desired.

The silver-plated surface has developed a natural patina and some tarnishing, enhancing its antique character. There are minor surface scratches, as expected for a piece of this age. The lid has two small dents, which are not highly noticeable and do not take away from its beauty. Additionally, the bottom of the casket has a small hole where the music box knob would have once been.

Despite these signs of age, this jewelry casket remains a stunning, collectible piece—ready to hold treasured keepsakes for generations to come.
