This extraordinary 18 karat yellow gold buckle ring dates to 1870 and was crafted in England, fully hallmarked in Chester, with the maker’s mark “AB,” a testament to the integrity and precision of English goldsmithing during the Victorian era.

Chester was one of England’s historic assay offices, alongside larger centers such as Birmingham. While Birmingham produced jewelry in much greater volume, Chester hallmarks are encountered less frequently today, giving pieces like this a distinct collector’s appeal and a sense of individuality within Victorian goldwork.
